Turning Things Around

We are changing some things in our house. We are living more like the farmers.
I am now trying to make sure to serve breakfast. Not just expensive, non-satisfying cold cereal. Something heartier. This week I made both granola & bread.
But, the bigger change.... We now eat our main meal at midday. And then, only a light dinner. This is really only our third day on the new schedule. But, so far so good.
Eating more at lunch gives us good energy all afternoon. No need for bad snacks. Like, just digging into the ice cream tub...
Eating a lighter dinner has been sufficient. We haven't been feeling hungry. But rather, much better without eating too much heavy food right before sleeping.
I thought it might be too hard, schedule-wise, since I usually end up having to run an errand in the morning, too. But, with planning ahead, so far, it has worked fine. It even seems easier, since the kids are much more cranky in the evening, when I was trying to make dinner before.
We started doing this with the idea it would be better for us. I think it is better for our metabolism and digestion. I certainly have less terrible pregnancy heartburn at bedtime.
Anyway. We'll see if we can keep this up!

Side note... We had Peyton's birthday party last weekend & I have lost the memory card with the pictures. Pray I find it! If I do, I'll post some!

Happy Late Birthday to Peyton!

Congrats on the European style of eating...it really is fantastic. Analise hardly eats anything (not that you could tell by looking at her), but her biggest meal is lunch!

Hope you are feeling well!

I am interested to see how this works out for you, it sounds like an excellent plan and a better way to eat. We might just try this ourselves...

I don't see how this could work for those of us whose husbands are gone from 6am to 6pm though. I don't like to have a "nice meal" sans hubby. We do this style of schedule on Sundays, always. But never are able to at other times.
Does your husband's schedule simply allow this change, or is it actually better for him?
Just curious. :)

Melissa,
Scott has always come home for his lunch break. He works 5 minutes away from home. So, that is how it works for us! It is still rather of a hurried pace for eating. But, with the kids, it seems like dinner was always that way anyway. This is actually more relaxing for us.
Yep. So, I don't see how it would work for one whose husband is away all day, either! This is more agrarian friendly!

this is such a good idea! And I think you're right about it being healthier for you. We've been eating much less for dinner (Jason and me) and we also have felt great, but I can't say we've purposefully eaten more at lunch. I've always eaten a very large breakfast and lunch or I go crashing around 3pm.
I might try this with Jason and the kids and see if it works better!

Peyton's actual birthday is on the 19th, yes?

Sounds like a great idea! It sounds healthier too.

Stef - that's right! Peyton's bday is the 19th. We had his party early, so all the family could make it.

hey Erin, I had another question about this schedule-switcharoo. :)
how does/will this work with having company over for dinner? do you invite people over during the noon hour? or do you have a larger meal on the days you have company? or do you tell company ahead of time to expect a light supper instead of full dinner?
I'm really curious.
Also, do you know others that do this (esp in your area) or was this your own idea??

Melissa,
As, we've only done this for a little more than a week, we haven't had company yet. But, I suppose we would just be flexible & serve something normal for dinner. We aren't really strict people about such things!
I don't think we really know people who eat this way. Maybe? It was sort of our non-original idea. You know, I know people do it. I just realized I was feeling alot better on days that I ate more at lunch & less at dinner....
