Our baby Gillian turned 1 year old on Saturday. Ah!
We had a great party. She was a very good birthday girl. She loved the decorations, the attention - everything! Scott's parents & sister came, and my parents & siblings came (except David - who was a fire academy). We started the party outside with some food & drink & a game of lawn bowling with squash. I saw the bowling idea in Martha & it was so cute. The only bummer is that now I have 10 butternut squashes to bake up & use!! It was a great fall day. When it started getting nippy, we came inside for presents. Gillian loves all her new stuff! It was very cute.
Then we had cake & ice cream. That was my favorite, cuz her face was SO cute for the birthday candle. She loves candles.
Anyway. Good times...

What a cute little bohemian birthday baby! Sounds like fun! You could always just peel and cut the squash, then freeze it to cook later. I think Kendra from Preschoolers and Peace had an idea of what to do with lots of squash. You should look it up on her blog.
Awww - happy birthday Gillian! So cute! Giada De Laurentis has a recipe for butternut squash lasagna that looks yummy (I've never tried it because of the cheese). Of course it's perfect weather for butternut squash soup too. Good luck! That's a lot of squash! ;-)
You could also just make massive quantities of baby food... :) Anyway, great party- good food, fun game, and CUTE baby.
Happy birthday, Gillian! You're a pretty cute one year old. :)
Sara,
Does Kendra have a search tool on her blog. I am totally not seeing how to find her stuff on squash...
I had been thinking of cooking the squash & freezing it to use later. Have you tried freezing it raw?
Erin, I used to cut up pumpkin and boil it with water. Then I pureed it and put it in cup-sized tupperware to freeze for later. You can also cut it in half and bake for an hour at 375 degrees, then just scoop out the mushy stuff and freeze.

She is so darn cute...and are those UGGS she's wearing? How cute! Glad she had a fun B-day. The 1st B-Days are always the best, especially when it comes to the cake :)
Great birthday party Gillian! We really enjoyed visiting with you and all your family. You look so cute in your clothes & costumes.
